MIT CLIMATE SIMULATOR

Choose your own future…

JCN’s “Climate Simulator: Choose Your Climate Future" Workshop is an interactive experience which breaks down societal strategies to address climate change through the testing of the En-ROADS Climate Simulator.

This has been developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and results in a hopeful, scientifically-grounded, action-oriented and eye-opening experience.

The 1.5 hour workshop will be facilitated by Karen Lowe, the Sustainable Procurement lead at Cleanaway and En-ROADS accredited facilitator. Originally from the US, Karen holds a Bachelors in Music (Brandeis University) and an MBA (Portland State University, ESB Business School).

In the session, we will simulate up to 18 different broad-scale climate actions with an objective to limit global temperature rise to under 2°C by 2100. This will help us practice thinking about the global climate as a complex system. We will reflect on whether these actions are high-leverage or low-leverage and how they benefit both the planet and society in ways bigger than mitigating climate change.

Pre-requisites: It is recommended that participants are familiar with the basics of climate change, e.g. the greenhouse effect and the role of fossil fuels in contributing to global heating. Please bring an open, curious and inquisitive mind, as the simulation can behave in counter-intuitive ways.

Lite refreshments will be served and all educational materials will be provided. Just bring yourself!

JCN will be hosting recurring sessions for this workshop based on a rolling basis, with an intimate group size of maximum 12 people per session.
